All information provided by an individual when requesting a background check by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) is considered confidential and not subject to public disclosure as found in Title 37 PA Chapter 33 33.103. The individual’s social security number (SSN), if provided, will be used to accurately identify the individual when conducting the background check. Although the disclosure of your SSN is voluntary, not providing your SSN may result in PSP being unable to positively identify you from disqualifying records. Your SSN will be used by PSP in determining if these records relate to you.
